Lawsuits Against Roblox and Discord

Numerous lawsuits have been filed against Roblox and Discord, accusing both platforms of enabling the grooming, exploitation, and abuse of children by online predators. These lawsuits span multiple states and allege a systemic failure to protect children, enforce adequate safety protocols, and monitor user behavior, particularly involving adult users who pose as minors to contact and exploit kids.

In August 2025, Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill filed a major lawsuit against Roblox, accusing the platform of enabling child grooming and exploitation at scale. The complaint claims the online gaming platform suppressed internal warnings, misled families, and failed to implement even the most basic protections for young users.

It alleges the company knowingly allowed its platform to be used for the circulation of deeply inappropriate content involving minors, creating a “distribution hub” for material that should have been flagged and removed. The suit argues that Roblox placed its profit margins ahead of user safety, leaving children vulnerable to predatory behavior.

That same month, a California mother sued Roblox and Discord after her 10-year-old daughter was groomed by a man posing as a peer. The predator, reportedly in his twenties, contacted the child through Roblox, sent her inappropriate media, and manipulated her into sending images in return.

Also in August 2025, a 10-year-old girl in California was abducted by Matthew Macatuno Naval, a 27-year-old man who initiated contact through Roblox and continued communication on Discord. He obtained her address and traveled to pick her up, taking her hundreds of miles away before authorities recovered her.

Another case filed that month in Georgia involves a 9-year-old child who was contacted by multiple adults posing as children on Roblox. According to the lawsuit, the child was sent inappropriate messages and images, and eventually coerced into sharing their own media. When the child tried to stop, the predators threatened to send the materials to friends at school.

In July 2025, a 13-year-old girl was allegedly groomed by a man who built trust with her through Roblox. He convinced her to meet in person, after which he took her across state lines and sexually assaulted her. In another case, a 14-year-old Alabama girl was groomed through Roblox and later lured from her home through Discord. Authorities were able to recover her before an assault occurred.

In May 2025, Christian Scribben was arrested and later named in a sexual exploitation lawsuit after allegedly using Roblox and Discord to groom children as young as 8. Authorities say he instructed victims to create explicit content and distributed it through Discord.

Also in May, a 13-year-old girl in Texas was groomed by a predator she met on Roblox. He used Discord to gain access to her home, where he recorded the abuse. Another lawsuit filed in San Mateo County involved a 16-year-old Indiana girl who a predator on Roblox contacted, coerced into sending explicit material, and later taken to Georgia, where she was assaulted.

In April 2025, Roblox and Discord were sued after a girl was contacted through Roblox’s private messaging system, then coerced into sending images after communication moved to Discord.

Another April 2025 case involves Sebastian Romero, who allegedly used Roblox and Discord to groom and exploit a 13-year-old boy. The child was manipulated into sharing images. Authorities later found Romero had sexually exploited more than 25 children.

2024 investigation uncovered widespread abuse across Roblox and Discord. Notable cases included a registered Kansas sex offender who contacted an 8-year-old girl on Roblox, and an 11-year-old girl in New Jersey who was abducted after being groomed through the platform.

The report also cited Arnold Castillo, a Roblox developer who allegedly trafficked a 15-year-old Indiana girl across state lines. She was sexually exploited several times while missing for eight days. In private chats, the offender referred to her and other young girls as “sex slaves”.

In October 2022, a California lawsuit was filed against the Roblox Corporation, Discord Inc., Snapchat, and Meta. It is alleged that a group of adult men exploited a girl through these platforms for sexual and financial purposes. She was reportedly manipulated into sharing content and using substances, while the platforms failed to verify ages or restrict contact between minors and adults.

2019 case involved a mother who sued Roblox after discovering her minor son had been groomed by an adult on the platform. The predator persuaded the boy to send explicit photos.

Who Is Eligible to File a Roblox Lawsuit?

Families whose children were groomed, exploited, abused, or otherwise harmed through Roblox — often in combination with platforms like Discord — may be eligible to file a lawsuit against the companies involved.

These legal claims are typically based on failures to protect children from known risks, poor moderation practices, lack of parental controls, or the platform’s role in enabling communication between minors and adult predators. You can file a Roblox lawsuit if:

  • Your child was contacted by an adult on Roblox or Discord and was groomed, coerced, or manipulated in any way
  • Your child was sexually exploited, sent or received explicit content, or was targeted for abuse while using the platform
  • Your child was abducted or physically harmed as a result of contact made through Roblox or related apps
  • You discovered explicit conversations, images, or behavior on your child’s Roblox or Discord accounts that indicate abuse
  • You reported abusive activity and no action was taken by the platform(s) to stop it or protect your child
  • You suffered financial or emotional harm as a parent or guardian caring for a child affected by online exploitation

Parents or legal guardians can file lawsuits on behalf of minors. In some cases, teens who are now 18 or older may file on their own, depending on the statute of limitations in their state.

Even if the abuse happened months or years ago, you may still have time to take legal action. If you’re unsure whether you qualify, a free legal consultation can help determine if your family may be eligible to file a Roblox lawsuit.

What Damages Can Victims Recover in Lawsuits Filed Against Roblox?

Survivors of sexual assault and exploitation — including those harmed through platforms like Roblox and Discord — may be entitled to financial compensation through a civil lawsuit. These damages are meant to address the severe and often lifelong impact of abuse, both emotionally and financially.

Victims may be able to recover compensation for:

  • Medical and Mental Health Expenses – This includes the cost of hospital stays, counseling, psychiatric treatment, medication, and any long-term care needed as a result of the trauma.
  • Pain and Suffering – Courts recognize the intense emotional toll that abuse can have. Victims may receive damages for emotional distress, anxiety, depression, PTSD, and other psychological harm.
  • Loss of Quality of Life – If the abuse interferes with the victim’s ability to enjoy normal life activities, pursue education, or build relationships, compensation may be awarded for this loss.
  • Loss of Earning Capacity – For older children and teens, abuse can impact academic performance and future career potential. Damages may reflect a diminished ability to earn income later in life.
  • Punitive Damages – In cases where companies or individuals acted with gross negligence or intentional misconduct, courts may award punitive damages — not just to compensate the victim, but to punish the wrongdoer and deter similar failures in the future.
  • Other Economic Losses – These can include the cost of relocation, home security, educational disruption, or parental work loss caused by caring for a child in crisis.
